Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our free counseling services for educators.
Is the counseling really free?
Yes, completely free. Balanced Educators is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All of our counseling services are funded through donations, grants, and corporate partnerships. There are no hidden fees, co-pays, or costs of any kind.
Do I need insurance?
No. Our services are available regardless of your insurance status. You do not need to provide insurance information at any point.
Who is eligible for services?
Any current K-12 educator in the United States, including teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, school counselors, school nurses, librarians, and other education support staff.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes. All sessions are completely confidential. We do not share information with your employer, school district, or anyone else without your explicit written consent. The only exceptions are those required by law (imminent danger to self or others, abuse of a minor).
How long are sessions?
Individual counseling sessions are approximately 50 minutes.
How many sessions can I have?
Balanced Educators covers a minimum of 6 sessions per educator. Additional sessions may be available based on need and funding.
Can I do virtual sessions?
Yes. Most of our sessions are conducted via secure video conferencing. In-person sessions may be available depending on your location.
How do I get started?
Click the Get Started button on our website or contact us directly. We will connect you with our counseling partners within a few business days.
Will my employer know I am using this service?
No. Your participation is confidential. We will never contact your employer or school about your involvement with our services.
What if I do not connect with my counselor?
The therapeutic relationship is important. If you feel your counselor is not the right fit, let us know and we will match you with someone else — no questions asked.
I am not sure if I need counseling. Should I still reach out?
Absolutely. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counseling. Many educators use our services to manage everyday stress, prevent burnout, and build resilience.
How is Balanced Educators funded?
We are funded through individual donations, corporate partnerships, school district partnerships, and grants. All program funds go directly to supporting educator wellness and counseling services.
